Spending in another currency

Record an expense in another currency at the exchange rate you type, let Fince remember that rate, and change your main currency safely.

Fince counts everything in one main currency, the one you chose on first launch. Abroad or when buying online, you can still note an expense in the currency you paid in: Fince converts it with the exchange rate you type. It never fetches rates from the internet.

  1. Tap the Add tab and type the amount as it appears on the receipt, for example 20.

  2. Tap the currency symbol to the left of the amount.

  3. Pick the currency you paid in. Common ones are at the top; Search currencies finds any other by name or code.

  4. A new line appears under the amount, such as “1 USD = … EUR”. Type the rate, for example the one on your bank statement. Fince shows the converted amount just below.

  5. Choose the category and tap Save.

Fince remembers the rate

When you save, Fince keeps the rate you used for that currency. The next time you pick it, the field is already filled in; change it if the rate has moved.

How it appears

  • Totals, balances, budgets and the amount left to spend per day are all in your main currency, using the converted amount.
  • The transaction row also shows what you paid in the other currency, and editing the transaction brings back the original amount and rate.
  • Search finds transactions by currency code: type “USD” to list them all.

With Quick add and Siri

Quick add understands “20 usd”, “$20” or “20€” and selects the currency for you, with the last rate you used. If you have never used that currency, type the rate before saving.

Siri converts with the remembered rate only. If there is none yet, add one transaction in that currency in the app first. See Quick add, widgets and Siri.

Changing your main currency

In Settings (the gear on the Dashboard), under General, tap Currency and pick another one.

Changing the main currency relabels the amounts you already have without converting them: 100 euros would simply become 100 dollars. Only change it at the start, or if you picked the wrong one.

Things to know

  • A backup made in another main currency can replace your data, but can’t be merged with it, since amounts in two currencies can’t be added up.
  • Scanning a receipt fills in the amount in your main currency.
