Fince

Quick add, widgets and Siri

Log an expense in one line with Quick add, from a Home Screen widget, or by asking Siri. Fince reads the amount, category, date and tags.

When you don’t want to fill in a form, write one line and let Fince sort it out. Everything is read on your iPhone, and the same line works in the app, with a widget and with Siri.

  1. Tap the Add tab.

  2. Tap the field at the top: Quick add, e.g. “coffee 4.50”.

  3. Type a short line such as coffee 4.50. As you type, Fince fills in the amount (4.50), the category (Food & Drinks) and the note (Coffee).

  4. Check the fields below: they stay editable. Pick a category yourself if none was found.

  5. Tap Save.

What Quick add understands

  • Amounts: 4.50 or 4,50, and 30k for 30,000.
  • Categories: a category name (“transport”, “health”) or an everyday word or brand (“lunch”, “taxi”, “rent”, “netflix”, “pharmacy”).
  • Income: an income category (“salary 3200”, “refund 25”), the word “income” or “received”, or a + before the amount.
  • Date: “today” or “yesterday”, as in taxi 20 yesterday.
  • Tags: any word starting with #, as in lunch 14 #work.
  • Another currency: “12 usd”, “$12” or “12€”. See Spending in another currency for the exchange rate.

Whatever is left becomes the note.

Widgets

Fince has two widgets:

  • Quick add (small or medium, Home Screen). The Add expense button opens the Add screen with the amount ready to type. The medium size also shows four categories, the ones you use most this month: tap one to open the Add screen with that category already chosen.
  • Month at a glance (Home Screen and Lock Screen). What you have spent this month, what is left of this month’s budgets (or your income if you have no budget), and on the medium size your top categories.

To add one, touch and hold an empty spot on the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Fince. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen and tap Customize.

Widgets refresh when you leave the app. When amounts are hidden in Fince, the widgets hide them too.

Siri

  1. Say “Add an expense in Fince”. “Log an expense in Fince”, “Add a transaction in Fince” and “Add income in Fince” work too.
  2. Siri asks “What did you spend or receive?”
  3. Answer the way you would type in Quick add, for example “taxi 20”. Fince saves it and Siri confirms the amount and the category.

The same action, Add Transaction, is available in the Shortcuts app.

A few details:

  • The transaction goes to the last account you used in the app.
  • If no category is recognised, an expense is filed under Other. You can change it later in the app.
  • For an amount in another currency, Siri uses the last exchange rate you entered in the app for that currency. If there is none yet, add one transaction in that currency in the app first.
