Add an expense or income
Record an expense or income in Fince with an amount and a category, plus account, date, note, tags or a receipt. Then edit or delete it at any time.
Each expense you note makes your month clearer. Fince only needs an amount and a category; everything else is optional.
Tap the Add tab at the bottom of the screen. The New Transaction screen opens.
Leave Expense selected at the top, or switch to Income for money coming in.
Tap the amount and type it, for example 12. Tap Done above the keyboard to close it.
Tap Choose category and pick one, for example Food & Drinks.
Check the Account. Fince picks the last one you used; tap it to choose another.
If you like, change the Date (day and time), write a Note, add Tags or a Receipt photo.
Tap Save at the top right. A Saved check appears and the form empties, ready for the next one.
The categories
Fince comes with 19 ready-made categories, and the list follows the type you chose at the top:
- Income: Salary, Freelance, Bonus, Refund, Investment.
- Expenses: Food & Drinks, Transport, Housing, Health, Shopping, Entertainment, Education, Subscriptions, Travel, Bills, Family, Personal Care, Charity, Other.
Need another one? At the end of the list, tap New category, give it a name, a colour and an icon, and tap Save: it is selected straight away. Touch and hold one of your own categories to delete it; transactions already in it keep it.
The optional fields
- Repeat: choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly for rent, a subscription or a salary. The entry you save is booked now, and the next ones show up under Upcoming on the Dashboard. See Recurring bills and income.
- Tags: type a word in Add a tag; a space or a comma finishes it. Tags you already use are suggested below the field.
- Receipt: Take photo or Choose photo, then Scan receipt to read it on the iPhone and fill in the amount, date and shop name you haven’t entered yet.
- Currency: tap the currency symbol to the left of the amount to enter an expense in another currency. See Spending in another currency.
In a hurry? The Quick add, e.g. “coffee 4.50” field at the top of the screen fills in the amount, category and note from one line of text. See Quick add, widgets and Siri.
Editing or deleting a transaction
- Tap the transaction under Recent Transactions on the Dashboard. For older ones, tap See all, or open the calendar or an account.
- The Edit Transaction screen opens. Change what you need and tap Save.
- To remove it, tap Delete transaction at the bottom and confirm with Delete. In the All Transactions list you can also swipe left on a row.
A deletion cannot be undone. Transfers between two of your accounts are not edited here: delete the transfer and make a new one.
Why it matters
Every expense you save updates the Dashboard straight away: the month’s expenses, your budgets, the Health Score and the amount left to spend per day.
