Search, tags and receipts

Find any transaction by note, category, account, tag, currency or amount, label spending with tags, and keep receipt photos with your expenses.

A few months in, you will want to find that one restaurant bill or see everything you spent on a trip. Search, tags and receipts are made for that, and all of it works on your iPhone.

  1. On the Dashboard, tap the magnifying glass at the top right. The search field opens on All Transactions.

  2. Type what you remember: a word from the note, a category, an account name, a tag (#holiday), a currency code (USD) or an amount (48.50).

  3. Under the field, narrow the results to Any, Expenses, Income or Transfers.

  4. The button at the top right switches between All time and This month.

  5. Tap a result to open and edit it, or swipe left to delete it.

Search tips

  • Every word must match: “food 12” finds Food & Drinks transactions of 12.
  • Capitals and accents don’t matter.
  • Amounts match with a dot or a comma: 48.5, 48.50 and 48,50 all work.
  • Results are grouped by day, with what you spent each day.

Tags

Tags group transactions across categories: a trip, a project, work expenses.

  • On the Add screen, type a word in Add a tag under Tags. A space or a comma finishes it, and you can add several.
  • The tags you use most are suggested under the field: tap one to add it. Tap the × on a tag to remove it.
  • In Quick add, write the tag with a # sign: dinner 38 #holiday.
  • Tags show in the transaction row. Search “#holiday” to list them all.

Receipts

  1. On the Add screen, under Receipt, tap Take photo or Choose photo.
  2. Tap Scan receipt. The text is read on your iPhone, and Fince fills in the total if you haven’t typed an amount, the date if it is still set to today, and the shop name as the note if the note is empty.
  3. Check the fields and tap Save.

Tap the thumbnail to see the receipt full screen, or Remove to take it off. A transaction with a receipt shows a small paperclip in lists. The photo is stored at a reduced size and is included in your JSON backups.

If you see No amount or date was found on this receipt., retake the photo flat and well lit, or type the amount yourself.
