iCloud sync and backups

Sync Fince between your devices through your private iCloud, restore a daily automatic backup, and export or import your data as JSON or CSV.

Your data lives on your iPhone. To keep it safe and have it on another device, Fince offers optional iCloud sync, a daily automatic backup, and exports you can keep wherever you like.

  1. Check that you are signed in to iCloud in your iPhone’s settings.

  2. In Fince, tap the gear at the top right of the Dashboard. Under iCloud, turn on Sync with iCloud.

  3. The line below reads Sync starts the next time you open Fince. Close Fince from the app switcher and open it again.

  4. Back in Settings, the status reads Syncing with your private iCloud.

  5. On your other iPhone, install Fince and, on the welcome screen, tap I already use Fince, then From iCloud. If Fince is already set up there, turn on Sync with iCloud the same way.

Your own private iCloud

Sync goes through your private iCloud, between your own devices. Fince has no server copy and cannot read it. Turning sync off stops new changes from syncing; what is already in iCloud stays there until you remove it in your iCloud settings.

Automatic backups

Once a day, as soon as you have transactions or budgets, Fince saves a backup on your iPhone and keeps the 7 most recent ones. To restore one:

  1. In Settings, under Data, tap Automatic backups.
  2. Tap the backup you want, by date.
  3. Choose Replace all data to go back to that point, or Merge with existing data to add back what is missing.

These backups stay on the iPhone, so they don’t help if you lose it. For that, use iCloud sync or keep an export somewhere else.

Export and import

  • Export as JSON (free): a complete backup of your accounts, transactions, budgets, recurring items, goals, debts and receipts. Save it to Files, send it by AirDrop, or keep it where you like.
  • Export as CSV (Premium): your transactions as a spreadsheet, with date, type, category, amount, currency, note, account and tags.
  • Import from JSON: pick a file exported from Fince, then choose Replace all data or Merge with existing data. A backup in another main currency can only replace your data.

On a new iPhone, you can also start from a JSON file: on the welcome screen, tap I already use Fince, then From a backup file.

Reset all data deletes everything, automatic backups included, and cannot be undone. Export a JSON file first.
