Left to spend per day

What the Left to spend per day card on the Dashboard shows, how Fince works it out from your income and bills, and what it means when it turns red.

Under your balance, the Dashboard shows one number: how much you can still spend each day until the end of the month without spending more than you receive, upcoming bills included.

1. Record this month’s income, such as your salary, with the Add tab (choose Income). The card appears once the month has income recorded or expected.

2. Set up your regular bills and income (rent, subscriptions, salary) as recurring items, so the ones still to come are counted. See Recurring bills and income.

3. Open the Home tab. The Left to spend per day card sits under the balance. The large figure is the amount per day, the badge shows the days left (Days left: 10, for example), and the line below gives the total left this month, upcoming bills included.

4. Keep recording your expenses. The number updates as soon as you save one.

What counts in the amount per day

Fince takes:

• this month’s income,
• minus this month’s expenses,
• minus the recurring bills still due this month (including overdue ones you haven’t paid yet),
• plus the recurring income still expected this month,

and divides the result by the days left in the month, today included.

Money you move into a savings account this month is set aside: it is no longer counted as spendable, and money you take back out of savings counts again. Other transfers between your accounts change nothing. Your account balances and money from previous months are left out: the card is about this month’s money coming in and going out.

An example

It is the 21st of a 30-day month, so 10 days are left, today included. You received €2,000 this month and have spent €1,200 so far. Your internet (€30) and phone (€20) bills are still due. Fince works out 2,000 − 1,200 − 30 − 20 = €750 left for the month, which makes €75 per day.

If you spend €100 today, tomorrow the €650 left is shared over 9 days: about €72 per day.

When it turns red

If you have spent more than you received, bills included, the card title becomes Over for this month and the amount in red is how much you are over. It goes back to an amount per day once the month’s income covers the expenses and bills again.

Why don’t I see the card?

• It only appears for the current month. If you moved to another month with the arrows, come back to this one.
• It needs income this month, either recorded or expected from a recurring item. Without it, there is nothing to share out.
